01.02.2025-25.01.2026
Margrethe Odgaard
From her colour laboratory in North Zealand, Margrethe Odgaard has sent 10 letters to Museum for Papirkunst. As wordless messages, each letter explores the ability of colours to convey emotions, memories and identities. Pansies delves into the cultural history of letters, where the written word has often been used to express what could not be said out loud – not least forbidden love. When the written word was not sufficient, pressed flowers with symbolic meaning were placed in the letters.
FLYING TRUNK
- STORIES WE SHARE
05.10.2024-28.09.2025
Debjani Bhardwaj
Debjani Bhardwaj explores where people are divided and united across borders and cultures, taking the viewer on a journey of fragments, false memories, liberation, and fear. With psaligraphs, tunnel books, and shadow installations that depict bizarre, dreamlike scenarios, Bhardwaj explores universal and site-specific myths and folklore about human existence and hybrid beings. Inspired by ancient stories filled with legends of Mahabarata and the jungle, Bhardwaj seeks to find relationships between the contemporary human condition and the narratives that have shaped it.
SCISSORS FOR A BRUSH
Permanent exhibition
Bit Vejle
In the museum’s core exhibition the world renowned psaligrapher, Bit Vejle, has collected a variety of the many impressive artworks, she has created with her embroidery scissors throughout her life.
Bit Vejle’s world consists of stories with beautiful motifs, but her art holds more than just pretty flowers and chirping birds. Every single papercut has its own story to tell and invites the observer to reflect and interpret. Some touches serious topics, whilst others celebrate the little things.

H.C. ANDERSEN’S PAPERCUT
Permanent exhibition
H.C. Andersen
Danish poet and author Hans Christian Andersen is world-famous for his countless adventures. He was already recognised in his time as one of the most original authors in 19th-century Europe. However, Andersen is also famous for his imaginative papercuts and is believed to have invented the Danish braided Christmas hearts.
At the Museum for Paperart, you can experience a true national treasure by the beloved Andersen. In cooperation with Museum Odense a new original cut by Andersen will be shown every six months.
The exhibit is supported by: Sparekassen Danmark Fonden Hvetbo
TRAVELLING IS LIVING
Permanent exhibition
Hiroko Momoi
”At rejse er at leve" (“Travelling is living”) said the world-famous Danish author Hans Christian Andersen. His fairy tales have made and still make an impression in many parts of the world, including Japan, where the Japanese artist, Hiroko Momoi, grew up reading Andersen's fairy tales. Hiroko Momoi's works are wonderful examples of paper art with roots in the Japanese kirigami tradition. Kirigami means cutting paper. In Japan, kirigami is seen in elegant pop-up cards or works of art such as Momoi's paper architecture, which has been created through careful mathematical calculations. The works were donated to Museum for Paper Art by the artist in 2025.

BRIGHTER THAN THE SUN
04.10.2025-27.09.2026
Lyndi Sales
From compositions of love hormones, crystal structures and their parallels between the stars to the deep web, mandalas and dream visions. The exhibition Brighter Than the Sun reflects the South African artist Lyndi Sales’ ongoing interest in science and spirituality as tools to explore the limitations of our perception and understand ourselves and the interconnectedness of the universe. Like the sunset in a science fiction film the use of colour in her monumental installations and collages on paper is hyper-saturated, psychedelic and challenges our usual perception. The otherworldly hues of luminous orange, brilliant purple and electric blue merge and flow into forms that lie almost outside the realm of our senses.
A CUT ABOVE
31.01.2026-24.01.2027
Zoe Bradley
The exhibition A Cut Above presents a pioneer in her field, namely the British artist and designer, Zoe Bradley, who works with paper as a designer works with fabric. Bradley combines sculpture, fashion and theatre in her adventurous works that transport the viewer to another world. The retrospective exhibition includes both small, richly detailed narratives and spectacular historical dresses on a large scale that challenge the limits of the material. Zoe Bradley is known for her paper installations for renowned fashion houses such as Louis Vuitton and Dior, and this exhibition is her first in Denmark, which she has created exclusively for Museum for Paper Art.
THE BOTANICAL WORLD OF MARY DELANY
03.10.2026-26.09.2027
Mary Delany
Using scissors and paper, the English artist Mary Delany (1700-1788) created a series of decoupages that stand out as a remarkable combination of art and science. The images, which are meticulous reproductions of plants and flowers, could be mistaken for watercolours, but are in fact carefully constructed paper collages or 'mosaics', as she herself called them. In the years from 1772 to 1788, Delany created a series of 985 extraordinarily detailed flower collages, which are today stored in the British Museum's archives, protected from light, moisture and other external influences. An exclusive selection of these spectacular paper artworks has now been made available to the public in the form of 50 photographs that reveal Delany's incredible ability to create accurate and breathtakingly beautiful reproductions of botanical species. Museum for Papirkunst is collaborating with the British Museum on this exhibition, which is the only exhibition venue in Denmark to show Mary Delany's works during the exhibition period.
