AFTERLIGHT
04.10.25-27.09.26
Lyndi Sales
Lyndi Sales (RSA, 1973) work is inspired by both natural sciences and altered states of consciousness. While her works are an expression of inner dreamworld states, they also reference scientific phenomena. Whether it be scientific experiments of explosions or microscopic crystals, when constructing her pieces Sales attempts to make the invisible visible and to find magic in the limits of the everyday.
Seeing beyond the visible spectrum is also a process of surrendering. For me, surrendering to our personality traits, surrendering to what the future brings, surrendering to our physical bodies by ultimately feeling that internal and external energy that is actually who we truly are. - Lyndi Sales
In this exhibition Sales reflects on the sun as a mystical Being. The unexplainable nature of existence is what keeps Sales inspired. Through her studies with plant medicine she has been drawn to the phenomena of ‘divine light’. Though divine light is difficult to explain it can easily be felt. The notion that light does not exist without shadow in the same way that positive energy contrasts negative energy and altered dream states contrast everyday mundane reality.
Sales describes how her works consist of collected fragments of herself – if you are drawn to one of her works, perhaps one of the fragments actually belongs to you too?
The whole purpose of your journey here in this lifetime is really to gather back our fragments so that we can become whole again. - Lyndi Sales
Sales’ process involves surrendering to a repetitive practice through painting, cutting and gluing together thousands of intricate pieces of paper. These compositions result in otherworldly forms which can not only be felt but also remind us of the magic in the unseen realms.
